A Gregorian Prayer for Epiphany

December 21, 2023

This week's final post in our Ancient Christmas Prayers series is from a Gregorian Sacramentary from the 10th Century. If you don't know what a sacramentary was, it was a book used for liturgical services, providing the words to be spoken or sung by the leader of the worship service (usually a priest or bishop). To learn more about the particular Gregorian Sacramentary from where this prayer comes, head over to Wikipedia.

Before you jump to this week's ancient Christmas prayer, I encourage you to first read through the words below, then go through them a second time, using them as a guide to connect with your Heavenly Father, who gave us the indescribable gift of His Son.

Almighty and eternal God,
Brightness of faithful souls,
You brought the Gentiles to your light,
and made known to them Him who is the true Light,
and the bright and morning Star.
Fill the world with Your glory,
and show Yourself by the radiance of Your light to all nations;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We are on a mission to help people love like Jesus loved and live like Jesus lived.

It doesn't matter to us if you:

  • are a Wartburg student or a grandparent,
  • vote Democrat or Republican,
  • are married, divorced, or single,
  • have gone to church for years or haven't been to church in years,
  • make $100,000/yr. or wonder how you're going to pay rent this month,
  • or fear your past mistakes make you unlovable to God or others.

No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, we want to help you become who God has created you to be.
