God vs. Man

God v Man

Today, we come to the end of our Christmas Wars blog series. To finish things up, we look at the biggest battle of the Christmas story: God versus Man.

But to be honest, this really isn’t a battle at all. Mankind stands even less of a chance of toppling God off His throne than an ant could wrestle and pin a blue whale. Yet, when Adam and Eve ate of the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, that was precisely what their actions communicated they thought they could do.

And sadly, ever since those fateful bites of forbidden fruit, humans have sought to put themselves or something else in the place of God. This is why Romans 5:10 says that apart from Christ, we were enemies of God. We have actively sought to replace God with self or with some sort of idol.

Thankfully, God did not throw His knockout punch upon the jaw of mankind. Rather, His ire was thrust upon Sin itself. The arrival of Jesus on earth was God entering the boxing ring, preparing to throw a “cross” hook that would lay sin out and free humans from their sin. What looked like the defeat of Jesus by His death on the cross was the very thing God used to defeat our greatest enemy and give us the greatest gift we will ever receive.

This Christmas, may you rejoice in the coming of Jesus, for it is the sign that God wants peace with you and all humans who will put their trust in Him. The manger, cross, and empty tomb all declare that the battle is over and the war is won. Through Jesus, the Son of God, your sin is vanquished and you are reconciled with God!

Join us next week at 4:30 pm on Christmas Eve as we celebrate the coming of the Messiah, who came to defeat sin so we might be reconciled with our Creator.
