Going Deeper Resources

At Riverwood, we are committed to your spiritual growth so that you might “live like Jesus lived and love like Jesus loved.” Using the four depths mentioned in Ezekiel 47:1-12, we invite you to step into the life-giving river of the gospel, and then allow the current of the Holy Spirit to take you deeper into Christlike maturity, moving from ankle deep, to knee deep, to waist deep, to immersed.

These Going Deeper Resources are intended to be used as a tool to help you identify where you currently are in your spiritual journey and then give you some ideas of some next steps to help you “go deeper.” Because there is no one-size-fits-all path to spiritual growth, we give you multiple ideas of tools (books, videos, activities, etc.) from which to choose to develop your head, heart, and hands in service to Christ.

Before you start

Some DO’s and DON’Ts

Do
… use this resource to help you get a sense of where you currently are in your spiritual growth.
Do
… use this resource for yourself or others to offer suggestions tailored to an individual’s spiritual maturity.
Do
… pick just one or two of the suggestions. Once complete, feel free to select another suggested resource.
Do
… come back to these resources from time to time as we will be updating them every so often as we become aware of new or more effective resources.
Don’t
… use this resource to derive your spiritual worth or compare yourself to the maturity of others. Being “waist-deep” is no more valuable than being “ankle-deep.” You are not more loved the deeper you are.
Don’t
… use this resource as a legalistic tool to impose guilt on yourself or others.
Don’t
… attempt to use all of the suggested resources at the same time!
Don’t
… just do this on your own. Share what you are learning with someone else!

Where Are You in the River?

To get the most out of these resources, you need to have a general sense of your own spiritual maturity. Being honest with yourself, are you…
Based on where you see yourself, choose the appropriate Resource sheet below and select one or more of the items on that list to help you move to the next depth (or help others go deeper).

On the Shore

Not a follower of Jesus yet, but curious about the Christian faith?

Ankle Deep

New to faith in Christ and spiritually enthusiastic, yet still feel like you have much to learn?

Knee Deep

Growing in your faith, but still recognize you put personal preferences over others?

Waist Deep

Service-oriented with a focus on God and others, knowing how to “feed” yourself spiritually?

Immersed

Intentionally and strategically finding ways to share the gospel and disciple others?
Your next step

Go deeper with others

Growth happens best alongside other people. A Growth Group is the simplest next step — a handful of people working through the same Scripture together each week.
