Teacher

February 26, 2026

One of the most positively influential people in an individual's life is a teacher, whether an instructor at school, parents at home, or a coach for their sport. But this teacher wasn't a positive influence simply because he or she knew a lot of information. They were a good teacher because they had the good of the student in mind.

We see this caring heart in Jesus in the key biblical passage for our current blog series, The Heart of Christ. After inviting you to come to Him to find rest from your spiritual and emotional laboring by "yoking" yourself to Him, He calls for you to "learn from Me" (Matthew 11:29).

What an honor! Jesus, the visible image of the invisible God, invites you to let Him be your teacher. And not just because He is so intelligent as God Incarnate. He knows His teaching is for your good. You, as a human, were made in His image, so He knows how life was meant to be lived. And He took on human flesh, so you could see how life was to be lived.

But how do you learn from Him?

1. Through Scripture

God teaches us through His Word what it looks like to live like Jesus and love like Jesus.

2. Through Prayer

Prayer should not be just one-way communication. When you talk with God, ask Him to show you His will.

3. Through Others

Another great way to learn from Christ is through His people, especially those who are more knowledgeable than you.

4. Through Action

Knowledge isn't truly learned until it is applied. So when Scripture calls you to worship God wholeheartedly, sacrifice selflessly, and serve others joyfully, you need to not just talk about it, but truly live it.

We are on a mission to help people love like Jesus loved and live like Jesus lived.

It doesn't matter to us if you:

  • are a Wartburg student or a grandparent,
  • vote Democrat or Republican,
  • are married, divorced, or single,
  • have gone to church for years or haven't been to church in years,
  • make $100,000/yr. or wonder how you're going to pay rent this month,
  • or fear your past mistakes make you unlovable to God or others.

No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, we want to help you become who God has created you to be.
