The Riverwood Way

January 5, 2017

by Erin Bird

With the start of the new year, I want to start a new series here on the blog about The Riverwood Way. While you can read the entire Riverwood Way on our website, I want to take some time to walk through it bit by bit here on our website.

Why? Well, the Riverwood Way is kind of like a computer code. It sits in the background, not really being thought about or considered, yet it is affecting everything.

For instance, this is what Google's homepage looked like in 2004. But this is what the code underneath it actually looked like. The code isn't very sexy. But its important. Without the code, you don't have the interface of Google.

Likewise, the Riverwood Way isn't something we expect our members and regular attenders to memorize or wear on a shirt. But it is incredibly important. It shapes our "interface."

Here's another way to think of it: The Riverwood Way is an expansion of our three values, which we happen to be looking at during Sunday mornings right now. (If you missed last week's message, catch up here on the website or through iTunes.) It's important for us to know who we are and who we want to be as a church family, especially as we have a desire to invite the spiritually disconnected to find and follow Jesus.

So be sure to come back to the blog every Thursday over the next several weeks to catch a deeper glimpse into how Riverwood does things and why, as well as discover how this "Way" can help you go deeper in your relationship with Jesus.

We are on a mission to help people love like Jesus loved and live like Jesus lived.

It doesn't matter to us if you:

  • are a Wartburg student or a grandparent,
  • vote Democrat or Republican,
  • are married, divorced, or single,
  • have gone to church for years or haven't been to church in years,
  • make $100,000/yr. or wonder how you're going to pay rent this month,
  • or fear your past mistakes make you unlovable to God or others.

No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, we want to help you become who God has created you to be.
