Jesus and his disciples go to the Garden of Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives. Jesus begins to sweat blood. The sweating of blood was caused by blood vessles bursting in his forhead due to extreme stress. This means that the suffering has already started for him.
Jesus goes through some of the most intense mocking and pain through this whole process and yet, with each new phase, the pain and mocking got worse and worse. Jesus knew this would be the case and yet, he goes forward with it willingly, and of his own choice. This was not “devine child abuse” as some skeptics might frame it.
Hebrews 12:2 says that Jesus endured the cross “for the joy that was set before him.” There was something awaiting him - something so worth it, that he willingly went forward. What was that something? It was us. Jesus knew that this process would open a way for those who believe to be with him for eternity.
